This fall concert is a celebration of the November Feast Day of Saint Cecilia, patroness of music and musicians.
Cecilia supposedly sang to God "in her heart" during her wedding (!), demonstrating the role of music as a link between the earthly and the divine. Our concert selections celebrate that connection, and also caution those who fail to transcend worldly obsession: "Rulers of earth, give ear! Should you not justice know? Will God your pleading hear, while crime and cruelty grow? Then do justice; love mercy; and walk humbly with your God." Musical offerings range from the ancient (Palestrina) to the modern (Vaughan Williams) to the contemporary (Eric Whitacre). Tickets are $15 at the door. We hope to see you there! |
